Gaze in Wide Wonder Upon the Humble Radish

The first harvest of the season!

Heather threatens the radish:

After I washed off the dirt, Heather and Randy shared the radish and pronounced it "very peppery." Grow-op members, step up now for your share! Actually, H&R don't want any more because they don't like radishes, so Rob and Mabe, let us know if you want some and we'll save them for you. We probably need to pull the rest very soon so they don't get woody and over done like our carrots did last year.

Day 3

Today is my third day trying to dig up the backyard. I'm still not finished, I'm starting to reek, and I have a big ass blister on my hand. God help me, if it doesn't stop raining every other day I'm going to murder someone.

I'm just happy my tomato plants are still alive in their little pots, (knocks on wood really fast!) cause I have no idea when they're getting in the ground...

Doctor, ow....

So I finished up the side yard yesterday, and although I was pooped after all that tilling, I thought, that wasn't so bad...

Today, every muscle in my body is sore. At least I have the corn planted.

Oh god, I still have the backyard to go...

More planting and a couple dead chicks

We planted cucumbers, brussels sprouts, squash, and onions today. The potatoes haven't sprouted yet so I just sent an email to Burpee asking them WTF. Also, our peppers have been extremely slow to sprout seedlings, so I didn't put the peat pots in the ground yet but I did leave them outside. Sprout or wither, seedlings.

I'm feeling harshed because we killed some chicks in their eggs when cleaning out a bird's nest that was in our eave. We both pulled out big sections of the nest. I saw the eggs first, a whole one and then a half shell, and then Adam pointed out the unhatched chick next to it, and then I nudged it and it squirmed and I realized it was still alive and I just lost it. I didn't like that I was the cause of this little being's death. I knew it was an active bird's nest and I didn't do anything to protect it or stop Adam from pulling it out and I pulled out some too. I thought it was too early for eggs and that the birds were still just getting ready. Anyway, it was a really awful feeling.
